Authorities say an 81-year-old Fort Dodge man died after he lost control of his pickup truck and hit the back of a parked excavator in a construction zone in Fort Dodge.
The Iowa State Patrol says Gene Peterson was killed when his truck left the road and hit the unoccupied excavator about 5:15 p.m. on Monday.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
