Vandals Cause $85,000 Damage to Missouri Fountains

Kansas City parks officials say thieves and vandals have caused $85,000 damage to two of the city’s most well-known fountains.

The Kansas City Star reports that thieves took $25,000 in lights from the JC Nichols Memorial Fountain on the County Club Plaza and from the Women’s Leadership Fountain in east Kansas City.

Vandals also caused about $60,000 in damage at the Women’s Leadership Fountain. It’s the city’s oldest fountain and was renovated in 2009.

Park officials believe the thieves were after aluminum, copper and bronze fittings connected to the lights.
