The family of a woman who died after falling at a northeast Ohio nursing home has been awarded more than $1 million in a wrongful death case against the facility.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports a Summit County jury found that Heather Knoll Retirement Village in Tallmadge was responsible for the 2006 death of 69-year-old Akron resident Robin Volpe.
Megan Frantz, an attorney for the family, told the newspaper the jury found that Heather Knoll was negligent and had violated Ohio’s Patients Bill of Rights.
Daniel Mason, an attorney representing Heather Knoll, said the facility plans to appeal and holds that it’s not liable for Volpe’s death.
Messages seeking comment from Frantz and Mason were not immediately returned.
