50,000 Receive Flood Aid in Illinois

Illinois state officials say more than 50,000 residents affected by flooding have been approved to receive emergency benefits.

The Illinois Department of Human Services says Sept. 3 was the deadline for applications for disaster benefits. The department says that so far it has approved $6.7 million in benefits.

To be eligible for benefits residents must have damage or loss of income related to flooding from July 22 to Aug. 20. They also must reside in Cook, DuPage, Carroll, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stevenson and Winnebago counties.
