I left NW 3 years ago, before the layoffs began, thankfully. The upper management at Nationwide was misguided and yes, they did over-hire in the 2000’s. I saw it directly in the home office product areas. And when Jergensen came in he brought with him an entire management team that knew nothing about insurance. Regardless of whether they are hiring in different areas than those where they had all of the lay-offs (not agency related), they ought not be patting themselves on the back and putting out press releases about how magnanimous they are. They ought to be begging the pardon of those they let go and apologizing for stupid business decisions.

I was laid off last year because I didn’t want to move from Iowa to Ohio. And now the jobs they filled with young people, after laying off the older people, are going to India. Happily, I am now employed elsewhere, and loving it. I’m in the home office, so there’s no worry about my job being moved. And the company cares about its employees!

The only place you can go to work and never get laid off even if there is nothing for you to do is civil service. Then you can be a parasite on the American taxpayer.

As for those of you who don’t like NW, DON’T WORK THERE ! If you already work there, go someplace else.

I have worked for NW and I think highly of them. Not perfect, but pretty darned good !
