    I believe comrade Michelle said it best, we’ll just take from the rich and give to the poor. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to write the definition of rich? I guess if you’ve got enough acorns in your closet, you get to do that.

    They had a LOT of layoffs (like almost the whole office) in Portland back in 09. Nice to see they practically close the whole service center (which had been in PDX forever) and now are hiring a bunch, just not here. I’m glad I left when I did.

    I’m not saying it’s a BAD thing. It’s great to have job growth!! It’s just interesting having seen them clean house and dump jobs, only to hire a bunch again later. It’s nothing new though, seen it other places too.

    Captives do that all the time. In fact Allstate is also hiring a bunch of new agents. Captives will hire a boat load, weigh them down with unrealistic requirements, fire them and the cycle starts all over again.

    DS – you said it. Dump jobs and then rehire. Way to make yourselves look like heros NW. What about all the employees who “left voluntarily” after learning their office was closing, they would have to reapply and reinterview for a job they had already been doing and then not get squat for a relocation package. Oh and not to mention make their spouses, families, etc. pick up and leave their homes and lives in the midst of one of the toughest economies most people have seen in their life time… Or get demoted and then asked to move.

    They aren’t “creating jobs.” They’re simply moving them to central locations. Where’s the article about all the people they’ve left behind?

    Sour grapes from a bunch of dive bombing “anonymous” posters. The company did not over hire as many companies did during the rah-rah early 2000s. As far as “captives” go I don’t think the jobs included agents so I am not so sure the Allstate reference fits. When you sign a contract to represent the company, whether on the captive or independent side, you have obligations to fulfill your agreement. Some do and some don’t, wow that is unusual. Go work for AIG if you want “stability” :)

    As with any company the supervisors make the environment pleasant or not so pleasant. No issue with that statement. Such is life in a large company.

    Having worked for NW in their PDX office from 2002 to 2009 I can say first hand that everything said on here is TRUE! It went from being a pleasant office to everyones worst nightmare. Inexperienced mngmnt, supv. that dont have a clue. Generally a really miserable place to work!

    There are many people in Lynchburg, VA, Columbus, OH, and Des Moines, IA who are thankful to have a job at Nationwide. Also, it’s good news more are to be hired soon.
