A Clear Lake, Iowa, woman has filed a lawsuit against a cell phone service provider, claiming her husband’s death was the result of a misdirected 911 call.
In the lawsuit filed in Cerro Gordo County District Court, Anna Poole claims she dialed 911 on her U.S. Cellular cell phone after her husband, Rick Poole, went into apparent cardiac arrest on May 18, 2008.
She claims instead of going to the Cerro Gordo County Dispatch Center, the call was routed to a 911 call center in Cedar Rapids.
The lawsuit claims valuable time was lost getting Rick Poole to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa due to the rerouting of the 911 call. The lawsuit contends negligence on the part of U.S. Cellular was an actual and proximate cause of her husband’s death.
