Minnesota Suffers Deadly Start to New Year on Roadways

February 5, 2009

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says the new year is off to a dangerous trend on the state’s roads.

Seven motorists were killed in Minnesota in January — and six of them were not wearing seat belts. That’s according to State Patrol preliminary reports.

Four of those killed were ejected from their vehicle.

Public safety officials say each year in Minnesota, motorists who aren’t wearing seat belts account for around 200 traffic deaths _–or about 55 percent of all motorist deaths.
