Malt-O-Meal is voluntarily recalling some packages of its unsweetened Puffed Rice and unsweetened Puffed Wheat Cereals because they may be contaminated with salmonella.
The company says the packages include those with “Best If Used By” dates between April 8, 2008 and March 18, 2009.
The cereal was distributed nationally under the Malt-O-Meal brand and under some private label brands including Acme, America’s Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw’s, ShopRite, Tops and Weis Quality.
The Minneapolis-based company says no illnesses have been reported.
The company says in a statement that the recall began after internal food safety testing found salmonella in a product produced on March 24, 2008. Malt-O-Meal investigated and issued the recall as a precaution.
A full listing of the affected products can be found at www.malt-o-meal.com/recallinfo.
