XL Catlin’s North America Property Insurance Team Promotes Two in US and Bermuda

XL Catlin’s North America Property Insurance business announced two promotions. William Volz has been promoted to Southern California regional underwriting leader in Los Angeles while Mark Flanagan has been appointed chief property underwriter in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Most recently serving as vice president, property underwriter in New York, Volz is relocating to Los Angeles. In his new role, he will engage both his underwriting skill and property engineering background to assist brokers and clients throughout the western US insure their most complex property risks. Prior to joining XL Catlin in 2009, he served as an account and loss prevention engineer at FM Global.

In his new role as chief property underwriter in XL Catlin’s Bermuda Insurance operations, Flanagan reports to Patrick Tannock, chief executive officer, Insurance, XL Bermuda Ltd, and will oversee the underwriting management of XL Catlin’s quota-share and excess property accounts serviced from Bermuda. Prior to joining XL Catlin in 2012, his career included positions with Jardine Lloyd Thompson and FM Global.

In a separate announcement, XL Catlin announced the appointment of Barbara Luck as president of its Global Excess Casualty business, promoted from her current role as chief underwriting officer of XL Catlin’s Global Risk Management business. Luck assumes her new leadership role on December 1, reporting to Joe Tocco, chief executive of XL Catlin’s Americas region.

Luck joined XL Catlin in 2012 from ACE USA where she served as executive vice president and chief underwriting officer of its ACE Risk Management division. She also served as chief underwriting officer for ACE’s National Accounts and held positions as branch underwriting manager and vice president of Business Development. Prior to her 11 year- tenure with ACE, she held various casualty management, brokerage and underwriting positions at Marsh, Zurich and AIG.

Brentwood Services Administrators Inc. Hires Callahan-Frye as Litigation Specialist

Tenn.-based Brentwood Services Administrators, announced the hiring of Kelley Callahan-Frye on October 17, 2016, for the position of litigation specialist.

Callahan-Frye will work out of the General Liability Department of the Brentwood office and will report to Teresa Jenkins, general liability claims supervisor.

She will be responsible for handling liability and auto claims.

Prior to joining BSA, Callahan-Frye was a litigation/extended handler III for Permanent General in Nashville, Tenn. She is a multiline liability and property damage adjuster with significant experience handling litigation.

GEICO Elects Kalinsky to Executive Vice President Post

The GEICO Board of Directors elected Greg Kalinsky executive vice president of the GEICO Insurance Companies. He will continue to serve as chief information officer, with responsibilities for IT operations, along with underwriting research and control activities, pricing and product management, centralized services and the company’s competitive advantage leadership group.

Kalinsky had most recently served as a senior vice president. He began his career in 1985 in the mailroom, while attending college at night.

During the course of his career, Kalinsky held management assignments in key areas of the company including sales, service and product management. At one time he headed underwriting activities for the company’s regional office in Fredericksburg, Va., and served as vice president of the San Diego regional office. In 2004, he was elected to the Board of Directors.

Kalinsky completed his J.D. degree from the George Mason University School of Law in 2000, and also served in GEICO’s general counsel’s office.
