Officials say 15 people were killed and seven injured when a cargo truck smashed into a minibus carrying patients to a hospital in Brazil’s central Minas Gerais state.
State emergency services personnel quoted eyewitnesses as saying the accident occurred early Monday when the truck’s driver lost control of his vehicle in rainy weather and slammed into the minibus, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
The truck’s driver survived the accident but was trapped inside the wreckage of his vehicle. The injured were taken to the nearest hospital.
News reports say the minivan was transporting hemodialysis patients and people with doctor’s appointments to a clinic in the town of Montes Claros.
