Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed Hannah Purves as its new claims director. Based in London, Purves will lead the company’s international claims team of more than 50 specialists.
Purves joins Markel after spending six years with specialist insurer Beazley, where she worked initially as part of the UK E&O claims team and then as head of the company’s PCG claims department for political risk, contingency, terrorism and product recall.
Before joining Beazley, Purves worked as an insurance/reinsurance lawyer for Mayer Brown Solicitors, specialising in professional indemnity, policy coverage and alternative dispute resolution. She has been a solicitor-advocate since 2003.
William Stovin, president and chief operating officer at Markel, said: “We are delighted to welcome Hannah to Markel. She has the ideal blend of skills to enhance the reputation of our award-winning claims team. In addition to her exceptional technical claims and legal experience, Hannah has the commercialism, pragmatism and leadership skills that we need to support our growing business.”
