Quake Shakes West-Central Mexico

A magnitude-6.0 earthquake set off alarms in Mexico’s capital on Thursday, but there were no reports of injuries or significant damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the 3:20 a.m. quake struck near the town of Tlalchapa in the state of Guerrero and about 107 miles southwest of Mexico City.

Guerrero state Gov. Angel Aguirre issued tweets saying there were no reports of damage and that schools would hold classes as usual.

In Mexico City, where many were awakened by the shaking, Civil Protection Secretary Elias Miguel Moreno Brizuela told the Televisa television network that there was no significant damage, though they did detect a few leaks from the water system.
