Swiss Sued Over Gadhafi-Linked Crash in DC

December 30, 2011

The Swiss government faces a $10 million lawsuit over the death of a woman hit by a Swiss Embassy vehicle in Washington driven by a former domestic servant to one of Moammar Gadhafi’s sons.

Law professor Harvey Rishikof filed suit Dec. 22 in Washington against the driver, Kamal Mortada, and the Swiss Confederation.

The suit claims Mortada lacked diplomatic immunity as he “negligently and recklessly drove the SUV that struck and killed” Rishikof’s wife, Trudith, on Oct. 6, one day before her 65th birthday.

The accident report says she had the right-of-way while walking across a busy road.

Mortada reportedly was one of two servants beaten in 2008 by Hannibal Gadhafi and his wife, whose arrests in Geneva on assault charges strained Libyan-Swiss relations.
