March 5, 2008

Risk Management Solutions released preliminary loss estimates, following an analysis of the insured exposure from Windstorm Emma (See IJ web site – https://www.insurancejournal.com/news/international/2008/03/04/87878.htm) RMS indicated that they would probably range from €300 million ($458 million) to €700 million ($1.068 billion).

The estimates include losses to residential, commercial and industrial properties.

RMS said: “Insured losses from this event will be moderate, primarily driven by relatively minor roof damage and the impact of falling trees and other wind-blown debris. Damage is scattered across areas of southern Germany, eastern Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland.

“The majority of the losses are likely to come from damage in Austria and Germany, however minor damage in the UK, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia is likely to generate losses in the tens of millions.”
