Safety Push Continues for New York Plane Crash Victims’ Families

Nearly six years after Continental Flight 3407 crashed into a home near Buffalo, relatives of the 50 people killed continue to push for improved aviation safety.

A contingent of passengers’ relatives plans another trip to Washington Wednesday to try to convince lawmakers of the need for a single standard of safety for all air carriers, big and small.

The crash of Flight 3407, which was operated by regional carrier Colgan Air, was blamed on pilot error.

The “Families of Continental Flight 3407” have secured several air safety reforms since the crash. On Monday, pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who landed a jetliner on the Hudson River, joined the group and Sen. Charles Schumer near the crash site in Clarence to urge Washington to resist industry pressure to weaken the new standards.
