New York State Police issued more than 11,000 tickets over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
During the five-day campaign that started last Wednesday, regular patrols were beefed up statewide to focus on speed enforcement, impaired driving, underage drinking, and distracted driving.
Of the 11,198 tickets handed out, 4,237 motorists were cited for speeding, 565 for distracted driving, 172 for driving while intoxicated, and 138 for not obeying the state’s move-over law.
The “Operation Hang Up” initiative to deter texting and talking on cellphones targets distracted drivers by using unmarkted patrol cars.
