Large Fire Damages Several Atlantic City Buildings

October 2, 2014

A wind-blown multi-alarm fire has damaged several buildings in Atlantic City, N.J., just steps from the resort’s boardwalk, and officials say two buildings have partially collapsed, but no injuries have been reported.

Firefighters were getting the upper hand early Wednesday in the fire that started late Tuesday and moved through buildings of shops on the first floor and apartments above on Atlantic Avenue.

Fire Chief Dennis Brooks tells WMGM-TV that the fire started inside a consignment shop. He says the blaze spread to three other buildings, two of which partially collapsed.

Brooks says wind is a factor and that it keeps pushing the fire from burned areas to unburned areas.

The Red Cross is assisting 17 people who have been displaced by the blaze.
