Vermont Town to Repay Disaster Overpayment

September 24, 2014

A Vermont town is going to repay $33,000 it received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for helping repair damage from flooding in 2011.

Assistant town manager Dave Ormiston told the St. Johnsbury select board FEMA’s request to get the money back is one of the “first true surprises” of the budget year.

Ormiston proposed using unallocated money in the highway fund to pay the money back.

The Caledonian Record reports FEMA paid the town twice to help repair 2011 storm damage on a local road.

The select board agreed to make the payment.
