A jury has awarded $2.3 million to a Rockland County, N.Y., man who said the head of Nyack Hospital’s orthopedic surgery left a serious infection untreated.
The Journal News says the jury found Dr. Jason Fond negligent in his treatment of 52-year-old John Antonucci of Valley Cottage.
According to Antonucci’s malpractice lawsuit, he was sent home on Oct. 1, 2010, even though test results showed he suffered from a serious bacterial infection.
When he returned to the hospital two days later, the suit says the infection had severely damaged his hip. It says he was forced to undergo a hip replacement three months later.
The Journal News says Fond’s attorney didn’t return a call seeking comment.
The jury reached the verdict Thursday following a 3-week trial.
