Holiday Traffic Enforcement Has Already Begun in Maine

Some Maine law enforcement agencies are already launching stepped-up traffic enforcement in advance of the Fourth of July weekend.

Col. Robert Williams, the state police chief, said troopers will be looking for aggressive, drunk and distracted drivers, speeders, those texting, and those not wearing their seatbelts.

The chief said the Fourth of July weekend launches the busiest season for tourism in Maine and he asked for patience from motorists, pointing out many out-of-state drivers might be unfamiliar with Maine roads.

Williams said the additional enforcement efforts will continue through the summer as July and August are Maine’s deadliest months for traffic crashes.
