A contractor from New York City who defrauded Superstorm Sandy victims in New Jersey will not have to serve a prison term as long as he pays restitution.
Monmouth County prosecutors say 52-year-old Frank Lewery of Staten Island was sentenced Friday to five years of probation, with the condition that he pay $30,740 in restitution.
Lewery admitted that he took deposits from homeowners in Rumson but never completed the repairs he promised to make. He had pleaded guilty in March to charges of theft and failure to register as a contractor.
