Vermont Used Car Dealer Sentenced for Odometer Fraud

A former Vermont car dealer has been sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to odometer fraud.

The U.S. attorney’s office says 40-year-old Douglas Jordan of Wolcott was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday.

A federal grand jury indictment accused Jordan in April 2013 of buying high mileage used vehicles at auctions and reselling them, while concealing malfunctions in various safety and operating systems. Prosecutors say he removed or disabled the warning lights for anti-lock brakes, air bag and check engine warning systems, so that he could resell the vehicles for more than their fair market value.

In one instance, he was accused of rolled back the odometer on a pick-up truck 100,000. Jordan pleaded guilty to odometer fraud in October of 2013.
