Long Island Residents Asked to Take Disaster Survey

A Long Island, N.Y., politician is asking residents to take an online survey to help officials update their plans for dealing with storms and other natural disasters.

Huntington Town Supervisor sent a request out Monday. Huntington is working with other nearby communities and Suffolk County to develop strategies to lessen losses from disasters.

The 21-question survey aims to gauge how much residents know about the hazards the area faces. It also seeks input on areas of vulnerability.

Questions range from whether residents have had problems getting flood insurance to how much money they would be willing to spend to help disaster-proof their homes. s

Petrone says the results should be invaluable to officials as they decide what measures to take.
