New York City Woman Hit by Car While Sunbathing Settles Suit

A woman who said a Parks Department vehicle hit her while she sunbathed on a New York City beach has settled her suit against the city for $300,000.

The Staten Island Advance reported the settlement Monday.

Aneta Kurkowska says she was lying on Staten Island’s South Beach around noon on May 26, 2012, when she felt pressure on her head. The pressure was from a Ford suburban owned by the Parks Department.

Lawyer Michael Bush says the 36-year-old Kurkowska needed staples to close a head wound. He says she also underwent shoulder surgery and treatment for neck and back injuries.

He says it’s unclear why the vehicle was on the beach.

The City Law Department says the settlement “was in the best interest of all parties.”
