Settlement Reached Over Fatal Crash Near Massachusetts Stadium

The parents of a young woman who died in a car crash near Gillette Stadium after drinking in the parking lot during a concert have settled the wrongful death lawsuit they brought against the Kraft Group, which owns the stadium and the New England Patriots.

Lawyers for the Kraft Group and Stephen and MaryAnn Davis reached a settlement just before jury selection was scheduled to start Monday in Norfolk Superior Court. Details were not disclosed. Attorneys didn’t comment afterward.

The lawsuit alleged the Kraft Group was negligent and had a duty to prevent underage drinking outside the 2008 country music concert. Debra Davis, 20, and her friends paid to get in the lot, but did not have concert tickets.

Stephen Davis also has been an outspoken advocate for alleged victims of Boston crime boss James “Whitey” Bulger, who prosecutors said played a role in the 1981 slaying of Davis’ sister, also named Debra. He attended last summer’s trial at which Bulger was convicted of 11 of 19 murders in a racketeering indictment. The jury didn’t make a finding in the killing of Davis’ sister.

Davis told reporters outside court on Monday he’s relieved the “long and hard” legal battle over his daughter’s death has ended. MaryAnn Davis said her daughter was “a good young lady” who made a bad choice.

Their daughter and the driver of the car she was in, Alexa Latteo, 19, of Mansfield, died in the crash. A third young woman in the car was seriously injured.
