OSHA Cites Upstate New York Manufacturer for Safety

Federal officials have cited an upstate New York manufacturer for 16 safety violations after a fatal forklift accident.

National Pipe and Plastics, Inc. of Vestal has been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for serious violations of workplace health and safety standards. OSHA’s findings come after a March accident involving a truck driver working for a separate company who was hit by a forklift driven by a National Pipe employee.

OSHA inspectors determined that two of the violations found following a March inspection related to the truck driver’s death. Inspectors said the forklift’s backup alarm didn’t work and the forklift driver’s view was obstructed.

Company president Dave Culbertson said Monday that National Pipe is contesting the findings. He says they are “without merit.”
