Danville Traffic Accidents Drop 52% Since 2003

Traffic accidents in Danville, Va., have fallen 52 percent since 2003. But police can’t point to a specific reason for the decline.

Danville Police Maj. Chris Wiles says police have focused on speeding, reckless driving, seatbelt and DUI violations. But he tells the Danville Register & Bee that there are many variables to consider.

Traffic accidents have dropped from 2,271 in 2003 to 1,088 in 2012.

Danville Police Chief Philip Broadfoot says police are looking at where accidents occur and using radar in specific areas. The goal is to change drivers’ behavior.
