Federal officials have cited a company for safety violations in connection to a Manhattan crane crash in April that killed a 30-year-old laborer working on the extension of the New York No. 7 subway line.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced Thursday it had cited Yonkers Contracting Co. Inc. with 10 serious violations. The company and a subcontractor face a total of $75,000 in proposed fines. They can contest the findings.
The agency says the company didn’t perform required inspections of wire ropes, including those used to hoist the crane boom that fell and broke apart while the machine was hauling rebar. OSHA also says the company didn’t ensure a rigger was properly trained and allowed a worker in the crane’s fall zone.
The company didn’t return a message seeking comment.
