New York City Traffic Deaths Rising

The number of New York City traffic fatalities is on the rise.

A report from the office of Mayor Michael Bloomberg shows that 115 city motorists and passengers died in traffic incidents last fiscal year – up 47 percent from the year before. There were more motorist and passenger deaths last year than in any of the previous three years.

The statistic was among many released Wednesday in the yearly Mayor’s Management Report.

Major felony crime rose 4 percent in the fiscal year that ended June 30, and noise complaints were up 13 percent compared to the year before.

Street cleanliness ratings were up, while complaints of police misconduct were down.

The mayor’s office says nearly 60 percent of “critical indicators” stayed the same or improved over the previous year.
