A suburban Buffalo, N.Y., doctor is accused of selling painkiller prescriptions to drug abusers.
Federal prosecutors say Dr. Matthew Bennett ran a clinic in North Tonawanda where patients were able to get a variety of dangerous and addictive narcotics without even undergoing an exam.
Authorities say some patients paid for the drugs with cash or insurance, but others offered trades, like landscaping and home repair services, a gas grill, and even paper towels and rolls of toilet paper.
The Buffalo News reports that Bennett was arrested Friday and charged with unlawful distribution of controlled substances. He was released after a court appearance.
His attorney, Joel Daniels, had no comment.
