A judge has sentenced the former girlfriend of convicted Hackensack, N.J., Police Chief Ken Zisa to pretrial intervention for filing a false insurance claim.
The Record newspaper reports Kathleen Tiernan can avoid prison if she stays out of trouble for three years and plays $11,000 in restitution.
Tiernan and Zisa were convicted in June of collecting $11,000 in damages stemming from a false claim that she had swerved to avoid an animal when she drove Zisa’s SUV into a utility pole.
Zisa was removed from office after he was convicted of insurance fraud and official misconduct. The former chief is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 15.
