New Jersey Worker Injured Falling Into Tank of Acid

Fire officials say a roofing employee fell 40 feet through a roof and into a tank of nitric acid in northern New Jersey and a co-worker jumped in to save him.

Clifton Fire Chief Vince Colavitti tells The Record of Woodland Park the men were working Monday morning on the roof of Swepco Tube LLC. It’s a metal tube manufacturing plant in Clifton.

Colavitti says the man who fell into the vat sustained head-to-toe burns and was air lifted to a hospital. His name has not been released.

The man’s co-worker is hospitalized with leg and abdomen burns after jumping into the acid to help. The fire chief calls him courageous.
