The dome of the Rhode Island capitol is going orange for a week to remind motorists of the importance of slowing down in construction zones.
The state Department of Transportation and AAA Southern New England are teaming up to illuminate the Statehouse in orange from Monday through Friday during National Work Zone Awareness Week.
Officials say around 700 people die each year in the U.S. in work-zone related accidents. Over 40,000 injures are reported.
The vast majority of the fatalities are the drivers or passengers in the vehicles, not the workers in the construction zones.
