A woman suing an East Hartford, Conn., doctor for allegedly hurting her during sex reportedly was convicted in connection with a 1996 fire in Manchester that killed her father.
The Journal Inquirer of Manchester reports the 44-year-old East Hartford woman’s past is likely to figure in her malpractice lawsuit against Dr. Edwin Njoku, because the apparent motive of the fire was to collect insurance money.
The woman alleges in her lawsuit that Njoku injured her during sex in June 2010 while she was his patient. Njoku’s lawyer has questioned why it took her so long to come forward.
Njoku also denies criminal charges that he sexually assaulted two other female patients.
The woman pleaded no contest to felony reckless burning in connection with the fire and served five years’ probation.
