Two men are headed to court to answer charges that they stole 22 metal storm grates from several southeastern Massachusetts communities and tried to sell them as scrap.
Benjamin Sisson and Kristofer Williams are scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Falmouth District Court on larceny and receiving stolen property charges.
A state police trooper pulled the Falmouth men over in Plymouth at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday after receiving a description of a truck and two men thought responsible for the thefts from Fairhaven, Mattapoisett, Bourne and Wareham.
Police were tipped off by a New Bedford scrap metal dealer who refused to buy the metal.
The grates, worth about $250 each, were returned to the towns.
Police say there is a public safety risk of vehicles or people falling into uncovered storm drains.
