Baltimore, Md., residents can get free smoke alarms by calling 311.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced the smoke alarm distribution initiative with fire officials on Monday. By calling 311, residents can request an alarm, which be installed by a company sent to the individual’s home.
A federal grant program is paying for 10,000 alarms with lithium batteries that last 10 years.
