An accident has claimed the life of a worker at a construction site on the New Jersey Turnpike.
New Jersey State Police say 51-year-old Carmen DiLuzio of Wilmington, Del., was killed Monday morning when a concrete barrier weighing more than a ton toppled off a flatbed trailer.
State police spokesman Stephen Jones said the accident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. at a turnpike widening construction site near Exit 7 in Bordentown.
DiLuzio was a driver for Tipton Trucking Co. of Oxford, Pa.
Jones said DiLuzio had parked his truck and was loosening straps that secured the barrier on the trailer when it fell off and crushed him. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:19 a.m.
State police and federal work safety officials are investigating the accident.
