Man Sentenced in New Hampshire Golf Cart Fatality

July 7, 2011

A Massachusetts man accused of causing a fatal golf cart collision in New Hampshire will serve 18 months in prison.

Thirty-three-year-old Andrew Morrissey of Waltham, Mass., was sentenced Wednesday on felony negligent homicide and aggravated drunken driving convictions.

Prosecutors say Morrissey’s blood-alcohol content was twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent when he drove a golf cart full of passengers into the path of an oncoming car early on Sept. 8, 2009. A passenger was killed and her 11-year-old nephew and another man were seriously injured.

Morrissey suffered minor injuries.

WMWV says his sentence is part of a plea bargain that also requires him to pay more than $200,000 in medical and funeral expenses for his victims.
