Connecticut officials say a bus company’s operating license is in limbo as regulators investigate why it allegedly used unregistered, uninsured buses for a school field trip to Washington, D.C.
A spokeswoman for Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen says Affordable Bus Charter of Northfield cannot operate while the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and state agencies review the incident.
Officials say the company allegedly transported 250 Fairfield students to Washington this month after the five vehicles’ registration and insurance lapsed.
The students were removed from the buses April 5 at the gates of Arlington National Cemetery and moved to another company’s buses. Fairfield’s schools superintendent says they are considering a lawsuit to recoup those last-minute expenses.
A message left Thursday at Affordable Bus Charter’s office was not immediately returned.
