Pennsylvania State Police say troopers issued nearly 800 citations for safety violations during a one-day enforcement effort targeting vehicles carrying hazardous materials.
Acting Commissioner Frank Noonan says 790 citations were issued after troopers inspected 1,599 commercial vehicles on March 29.
Police put 174 trucks and 43 drivers out of service as a result of the inspections.
Lt. Myra Taylor says hazardous materials transport is inherently dangerous and any safety issues compound that danger.
The most common violations found by police were unsafe brakes and drivers getting behind the wheel with too little rest.
