Delaware Highway Safety officials say the state saw a 14 percent drop in traffic deaths in 2010.
A preliminary count announced this week shows 101 people were killed on Delaware roads last year, the lowest number of such deaths since 1968 when 98 people died in crashes. Monday’s figures also represents a 10 percent drop from 2009, when there were 118 traffic deaths.
The Office of Highway Safety credits the decline to more people wearing seat belts. It also cites strong partnerships with state, county and local law enforcement and partners in health care, traffic safety and in the corporate community.
Transportation Secretary Carolann Wicks says the state continues to improve safety with recessed pavement markers, median cable guardrails and improved pedestrian signals and cross walks.
