Officials Says Christmas Blizzard Could Cost Long Island County $10M

Long Island officials estimate damage from the blizzard could cost Suffolk County more than $10 million.

Teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state Office of Emergency Management have been touring the area.

Beach erosion is a major concern. County Executive Steve Levy tells Newsday the Christmas weekend blizzard was the sixth major storm of 2010 to affect the area’s coastline.

State parks official Ronald Foley says it’s too early to tell how the damage might affect summer recreation.
