Maine Storm Damages Adding Up

Officials in Maine say a torrential rainstorm that deluged eastern Maine last week may have caused more than half a million dollars in damages to towns and cities alone, and another half million to the federal Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge.

A spokesman for Gov. John Baldacci told the Bangor Daily News that 10 Maine counties are reporting damages from the Monday storm that dropped 6 to 8 inches of rain in places, washing out local roads, flooding basements and closing a border crossing.

David Farmer said the final damage estimates haven’t been tallied, but that the heaviest damages were in Washington and Aroostook counties.
