Feds Offer Drought Assistance to Virginia Farmers

Federal aid is being offered in five Virginia counties to repair conservation damage on farmland caused by drought.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said Monday that an estimated $110,000 will be provided to producers in Albemarle, Bath, Fluvanna, Goochland and Louisa counties.

The funding from the Emergency Conservation Program is part of $8.9 million being provided to farmers and ranchers in areas affected by natural disasters this year.

The funding can be used to remove debris, repair conservation structures, restore fences, grade and shape the land, and implement emergency water conservation measures.
