I believe the article said if the officer has shot a human his bills would have been covered.

And yes he should be in this position.

Except for the fact I’ve been a firefighter in Hazel Park, MI for 3 years, have 2 relatives and about 10 friends who are in the Army/Navy/Marines; I’m sure you’re just action packed with all kinds of courage and having to execute a monkey is as natural as riding a bike for you, right? Courage, my friend, is acknowledging fear and knowing overcoming it is the only option; it has nothing to do with shooting a monkey in the head in the middle of suburbia who just tore off a person’s hands.

I can appreciate the trauma but this is what they signed up for. They have medical insurance to pay the bills. If he was traumatized, imagine what the EMS and hospital stuff suffered when they were confroneted with a woman with no hands and no face. Should every first responder get compensation for helping at every traffic accident, electrocution, horrible burn cases etc etc.

If the CT WC current law doesn’t cover this situation, as it apparently doesn’t, then his group health medical coverages would/should respond. That is exactly what they are for. He should suffer the same co-pays and deductibles that anyone else who has had a medical problem suffers. There is no reason to change the law because of one odd event or expect the employer to pick up any costs that his health insurance does not.

Hammer me if you want because I think this person should not be compensated, but do all of you think he should be BACK on the force? What happens when he has to pull the trigger on a person? What happens when he responds to a fatal car accident? What happens when he sees a comrade die in the line of duty? These are risks that come with the job and he has already proven that he may not be up to the task. I am fairly certain I am not up the the task which is why I choose not to be a police officer, fireman, paramedic…

Get back to the facts. Did he suffer ANY physical injury? Where his eyelids ripped off? Did he bleed a drop? NO, NO, NO. What he wants his full pay for a year or so while he sits around watching day time soap operas and occasionally gets a “counseling” session. Mental health benefits are ALREADY included in his health plan. He just doesn’t want to have to pay the co-pays or deductibles that a garbage truck driver working for the same city would have to pay if he were attacked by a monkey. As far as having savage flashbacks do to watching a segment of Oprah, I’m down with that.

How about paying for all the responders on the scene, the hospital workers who treated the woman, anyone who saw it on the news.
Universal health care, unlimited unemployment benefits, workers comp for hangnails – who’s paying for all this? I guess I just getting to the point that I’m mad as He!! and I’m not even a teabagger.
