Can you imagine a 200 lb bloody animal charging at you. Ripping the door off of your vehicle and not having PTSD???? My God people, pay this man’s bills. He certainly earned at least that much!!!

How about shooting dogs, cats, rats? Man up – it comes with the job or find another!

Sorry BOB…I think the situation warranted him some assistance. I can’t believe something like this happens all that often. Sometimes a little common sense applied to the situation could avoid going to court to settle.

According to the story, the law as written does not afford benefits for this sort of occurrence. While it is tempting to award benefits despite the law “just this once”, doing so creates a very slippery slope and soon, the (any)law is of little moment.

If the feeling is so strong that benefits should be granted for occurrences of this type, there is a process by which the law may be changed. Energy should be spent doing that rather than looking for a way around current law.

If you can’t handle all that comes with the job, you shouldn’t be doing the job. Did this individual not consider what the job might some day require of him? Did he not think that he might have to use his firearm with deadly force? And now he is back on the force, even though the previous incident has given him nightmares, anxiety and mood swings? If something affects me in a negative way, I don’t continue to do it.

Yeah I bet Franklin is right; EVERY cop on the force should anticipate one day being face to face with a bloody ape who just had a fully matured person for an appetizer. I think this would fall under the category of “once in a lifetime event,” and the man SHOULD be rightfully compensated for what most likely, to a rational person, would come with some kind of after-effect taking into consideration that individual probably pumped 3 or 4 9mm’s into that monkey. For all of you who think he shouldn’t even be considered for some type of compensation, ask yourself: “Other than that trip to the zoo last year, when was the last time I saw a monkey?”… much less in a suburban neighborhood ripping of peoples’ hands and ripping off eye lids. Get real, people, this is in no way a “normal duty” expected to be upheld by a police officer.

Stamford should be liable for hiring a police officer that is so trumatized. Police work requires a mind set that this officer would appear to be lacking. He will be premanenetly disabled if he ever has to shoot a human. I wouldn’t question his situation (not sufficient facts) but should he be in this positon?

That’s the kind of statement you hear from people who’ve never served in the police, as a paramedic, a fireman, or in the military. No person ever really knows what it’s like until you’ve been there. And volunteering to serve despite your fears is called courage.

This officer deserves to have his bills paid for the counseling period he went through.
