The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center says some patients at one of its hospitals in northwestern Pennsylvania have been exposed to an unspecified “health risk.”
UPMC says the patients who recently had surgery at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, Venango County face “an extremely low health risk” due to a problem the hospital network is not describing.
The Derrick in Oil City is reporting that the problem potentially affected more than 100 patients and stemmed from the failure to properly sterilize some equipment. But a hospital spokeswoman says UPMC is not releasing any details about the problem.
The hospital has notified the affected patients of the risk.
