A 22-year-old Delaware man has pleaded guilty to setting fire to a Maryland home so he could rescue those inside and win back his girlfriend after a fight.
Brent Wright cried last week as he apologized to Brittani Birch and her family in Worcester County Circuit Court. Prosecutors dropped other charges against Wright, including six counts each of first-degree attempted murder and reckless endangerment.
The county fire marshal says Birch’s parents had asked Wright to leave after a fight. Officials say six people, including two children, were in the house when the fire was set. No injuries were reported.
Wright will serve 18 months at the county jail and pay $1,000 in restitution to the family for damage to the house.
