A lobster trap manufacturer in Friendship has posted a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever set fire last fall to 85 rolls of mesh wire stored outside the factory.
Friendship Trap Co. CEO Mike Wadsworth said the fire caused nearly $60,000 in damage and could have destroyed the entire factory if flames had spread in a different direction.
The state fire marshal’s office determined that one or more people set fire to 85 rolls of lobster wire mesh on the night of Oct. 30. Sgt. Ken Grimes told the Bangor Daily News that it apparently took a lot of effort to get the bales of coated wire to ignite.
The case remains open, and Wadsworth says he hopes the reward provides investigators with useful information.
